The mythical Shar Mountains in Kosovo and North Macedonia: untouched, undeveloped, full of nature. The first part of the High Scardus Trail leads through them. And in their midst, the shepherds live a very traditional life. With horses as means of transport and with impressive dogs that protect the large flocks of sheep from wolves and bears. The spectacle alone of how the dogs drive the flocks of sheep into the stables completely independently every evening is remarkable. A simple life on a subsistence basis that you can immerse yourself in again and again during your trekking on the High Scardus Trail. Once you cover a section of the trail on horseback, another time you spend the night with a shepherd in a very traditional alpine hut. You will be with the shepherd at his work and can watch the dogs at the spectacle described above. You will also visit a local cheese dairy where tasty cheese is made from the milk of the sheep flocks. Yes, this is what regionality can look like!
