Šar Planina, the Korab Mountains with the 2,745-meter Korab as the highest peak in Albania and northern Macedonia, and the Galičica Mountains are all part of the mountain range that stretches south from the Kosovar city of Prizren with its absolutely worth seeing old town to the legendary Lake Ohrid. All of them are connected by the brand new 20-stage long distance hiking trail High Scardus Trail. A long-distance trail that is fantastic. So fantastic, in fact, that it was named “Best European Tourism Project 2022” at the “International Tourism Awards” in London.
A new star in the trekking sky, then – we, who are working very intensively on the development of this long-distance trail together with the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and local experts, are sure of it. The star is so new that the first guided transnational Explorer Tour has successfully taken place in the summer of 2022. The next tour will take place in June 2023, but on a different routing – a route that has never been offered before. If you are an experienced hiker, who is able to find your way in the mountains even without a trail, are adventurous and find the unexpected attractive, this is your chance to get to know the highlights of this trail so rich in highlights and to get deep insights into the myths and challenges of the hiked region.
