Accommodation at the end of High Scardus Trail Stage 09 Radika - Strezimir
3 small but very nice wooden huts built in 2021, each with 4 beds and a small bathroom in a very remote area.

ATTENTION: The cabins are locked and the key is currently deposited about 20 km out of the valley - so the cabins are currently self-catering. A solution is being worked on to make it easier to provide the key and also to organise a meal service. There are no locals living nearby and there is no mobile phone reception.

Opening hours

Die Hütten sind abgeschlossen - für eine Übernachtung muss vorher der Schlüssel organisiert werden.

Key

Key required
Currently, the key is deposited at a hotel about 20 km down the valley. A solution is being worked on to make it easier for you as a High Scardus Trail hiker to get the keys and return them.

Getting there

From Tetovo, take the A2 or E65 south (or the same road north from Ohrid) to Novo Selo. Here you turn west to Lake Mavrovo. After a few kilometres you will reach the village of Mavrovi Anovi on the western shore of the lake. Just behind the village, a small road branches off to the west, taking you through a valley to Trnica, a small settlement with a hotel. Soon after the settlement, turn right at a fork and follow the small road through the valley for quite a while until, after a right turn, you take a sharp left onto a gravel road into a branching valley. Follow this somewhat rough road until you see the huts on the left after a sharp left turn (the last meters are steep).

Question from Cornelius Schröder · April 24, 2022 · Community
Hi, is there any news on how to get the key and sleep in these nice huts? We plan to hike there on an individual trip in June 2022. Thanks!

Hello Cornelius, please contact the NP information center in Mavrovo (see link) who manages the huts for more information. Last time I talked to them, there was no system in place to mange this. https://goo.gl/maps/C26T8rPHmrkLGCTA8 Back in 2020, I completed the trail using guesthouses and my bivouac bag. In adverse weather conditions the caretaker of the hydropower station (I spent the night here) or shepherds two km up the road towards Korab may take you in. Happy trekking and let us know how it went! :) Ricardo from Zbulo! welcome@zbulo.org
